Everton has received a £23 million “knockback,” with a player designated as the “main man.”
Willy Gnonto is apparently not of interest to Leeds United.
Leeds United reportedly turned down Everton’s offer for Willy Gnonto this summer.
The Yorkshire Evening Post, our sister publication, reports that the Toffees renewed their interest in the winger and made an offer of £23 million. Following Leeds’ Premier League relegation last summer, Sean Dyche’s team had a strong interest in Gnonto. However, they received two rejections, and even after Gnonto submitted a transfer request, he was still unable to leave Elland Road.
Everton is once again interested in Gnonto after Southampton defeated the Whites in the Championship play-off final, preventing the Whites from being promoted back to the top flight. However, it appears that discussions regarding the Italy international, who scored nine goals and assisted three in the 2023–24 season, have come to an end after Leeds rejected them once more.
It is said that West Ham United hopes Gnonto sees an opportunity to become the team’s “main man” in their pursuit of a Premier League return that he will not look to leave after star player Crysencio Summerville was transferred to them for £25 million with add-ons.
Following his refusal to participate in three games last summer in an attempt to force a transfer to Everton, Gnonto is said to have offered no indications that he wants to leave Leeds. When Daniel Farke’s team opens the 2024–25 season on Saturday at Elland Road against Portsmouth, the 20-year-old is anticipated to start.
