The Pittsburgh Steelers have secured another rookie draft pick by signing him to his inaugural NFL contract.
In Pittsburgh, the Steelers have added another 2024 draft pick to their roster with the signing of sixth-round choice Ryan Watts to his inaugural NFL contract. The team disclosed the news this week. Watts’ contract with the Steelers
spans four years, although the financial specifics have not been revealed. He becomes the third Steelers draft pick to sign his first contract, following wide receiver Roman Wilson and defensive lineman Logan Lee.
Following his transfer from Ohio State, where he played in only 19 games across two seasons, Watts saw action in 27 games for the Texas Longhorns, starting 22 of them. During this period, he tallied 100 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 1 quarterback hit, three interceptions, and 6 passes defended.
With uncertainties surrounding the cornerback situation in Pittsburgh, Watts has an opportunity to secure a roster spot immediately. Although Joey Porter Jr. stands out as the clear No. 1, and veteran Donte Jackson fills another
starting position on the outside, the Steelers still require depth and a starting slot cornerback. This presents Watts with a chance to make a swift impact. However, he’ll face competition from several other young prospects.
