Is Russell Wilson the Key to Steelers Success at QB?
Jerome Bettis, Former Steelers Star, Foresees
 Najee Harris Excelling
During a recent interview, Pro Football Hall of Famer Jerome Bettis forecasted that Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris would significantly improve with a revamped offensive line.
Pittsburgh Steelers’ general manager Omar Khan has made significant investments in bolstering the team’s offensive line over the past two drafts. Notably, they selected offensive tackles in the first round in consecutive years, picking Broderick Jones at No. 14 overall last offseason and Troy Fautanu at No. 20 this April.
In addition to these first-round selections, they drafted Zach Frazier, a center from West Virginia, in the second round and used a fourth-round pick on guard Mason McCormick.
Former Steelers running back Jerome Bettis sees this commitment to strengthening the offensive line as crucial for the success of Najee Harris. Bettis expressed on The Joe Starkey Show on 93.7 The Fan that Harris didn’t experience the desired level of success in his first year and a half, largely due to the inadequacy of the offensive line. However, Bettis believes that last year marked the first time the Steelers had an offensive line capable of excelling in run-blocking, which bodes well for Harris’ future performance.
With Russell Wilson now leading as quarterback, Khan and his team have pledged to protect their quarterback and open up opportunities for Harris and Jaylen Warren in the running game.
Bettis commended the Steelers’ front office for identifying the deficiencies in their offensive line and addressing them through the draft.
“That clearly indicates that the offensive line is not up to par,” Bettis added. “They’ve prioritized addressing this, which signifies that as a running back, you’ll see significant improvement.”
The Steelers and their supporters are optimistic about the upcoming season. With a reconstructed offensive line, an overhauled backfield, and an offensive coordinator in Arthur Smith who favors physical football, the Steelers appear poised to succeed.
