Panthers to hire Baylor's Matt Rhule as head coach | WNCT

Nebraska guard Ru’Quan Buckley entered the transfer portal on Thursday, a source told Husker247. Buckley, who began his Husker career on the defensive line, moved to guard late last season and worked there this spring. The 6-foot-5, 295-pounder from Michigan appeared in one game as a reserve defensive lineman over his first two seasons in the program, then played in eight games last season as a defensive lineman, recording a quarterback hurry against Louisiana Tech and a quarterback hurry against Michigan.

Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule had nice things to say about Buckley’s impact off the field earlier this spring. “Ru’Quan is one of those guys on the team that whatever room he’s in is a better room,” Rhule said. “He’s one of those fundamental leaders that raises the standard of everyone in the room. When he speaks everyone listens. When he speaks I listen.” Buckley was a three-star prospect out of Godwin Heights (Mich.) with an overall rating of 87 according to 247Sports. Buckley is the fourth Husker to enter the transfer portal since the end of spring ball. EDGE Chief Borders, walk-on quarterback Jack Woche and walk-on defender Korver Demma have entered the portal in the past few days.

While Nebraska rested veterans Ty Robinson and Nash Hutmacher in scrimmages this spring, a number of younger Nebraska defensive linemen like redshirt freshman Sua Lefotu. Lefotu appeared in parts of three games last season — Colorado, Michigan and Iowa — and recovered a fumble late in the game against the Buffaloes that set up a Nebraska touchdown drive in the fourth quarter. This offseason has been an important one in Lefotu’s development, as he has shed weight and worked to improve technique. Working with Nebraska’s nutrition staff, Lefotu has dropped down to 295 pounds and begun working on the finer points of defensive line play with defensive line coach Terrance Knighton.
