Cal.’s Mission Viejo Last weekend, the Under Armour Next Camp Series tour stopped in Southern California for the first time, and Madden Iamaleava, a quarterback for Top247, was one of the notable attendees.
One of the top uncommitted quarterbacks in the country, Warren is a highly sought-after talent from Downey, California, and things are starting to come together as we approach the spring evaluation time.
Right away, the new man leading Husker Athletics had a humorous explanation to give.
The agreement he signed was finalized at 4 a.m. on Wednesday morning, Chris Kabourek, the interim president of the University of Nebraska, announced from the platform. For the most part, he was right.
However, after completing the largest transaction of his career, Troy Dannen, the new athletic director for the Huskers, grinned and provided the exact moment on the clock.
“I knew I was going to come work for the right guy because at 2 o’clock he figured out how to execute a DocuSign agreement at some place in his house and we got that thing done and signed it at 3:51,” Dannen recalled. At 3:51, then, it is our current time. So I want you to answer your phone if it rings at 3:51 any day.”
I was kidding there. Perhaps in jest.
In what is arguably the most noteworthy comment of the day, Dannen stated, “That’s why this job, it wasn’t just about coming home.” “Winning and returning home was the goal. I had no intention of returning home merely for the sake of returning.”
Or perhaps it’s even better than that one.
“I can assure you that Nebraska will take the lead. We’re not going to follow. We’ll take the lead. We’ll take a closer look. Even if we don’t like what’s there, we will accept it. It is how one leads. You accept what is present. And we’re off.”
