The Mariners are four points above the League Two relegation zone when the 43-year-old took over as manager of the team after Paul Hurst left last month.
Artell left Crewe in 2022 after managing the team for five years.

He stated on the Grimsby website after being appointed, “It’s an exciting time to be part of this football club.”

“What (vice-chair) Andrew Pettit and (chair) Jason Stockwood have said, as well as their future plans, have really impressed me. I believe there is still a lot of work to be done, both on and off the field, but it’s a challenge that I’m excited about and can definitely support.

“I believe it is already widely known that I have declined offers to take on League Two positions. Just this past week, I turned down a job as an assistant coach at Standard Liege in Belgium.

“The existence of a plan is crucial. I thought, “That’ll do,” as Jason and Andrew have been very clear about the direction they want this club to take.
“I know that a lot of other clubs believe that I am the game plan, but it goes deeper than that. The things that Jason and Andrew have mentioned have really pleased me.”

On Tuesday, Artell will oversee his debut game when Grimsby visits MK Dons.
With Derek Adams’ recent departure, Morecambe has named former player Ged Brannan as their next manager.
After being elevated from first-team coach and senior professional development coach, Brannan, 51, signed an 18-month deal to replace Adams, who left earlier this month to take over as Ross County’s manager.

The club stated on its official website: “We feel Ged is the perfect appointment to take Morecambe Football Club forward, having seen off a large number of impressive and reputable names during the recruitment process.”
Brannan, a former midfield player for the Shrimps, continued, saying, “I’m ecstatic to be leading a team like Morecambe.
“The crowd are amazing; I had the pleasure of playing here once before and I always enjoyed it…I’m giddy with excitement. I’m overjoyed that the board has supported me and given me this chance.

After playing for Morecambe for two years until 2007, Brannan held a number of coaching positions at Accrington before joining the Shrimps again in September. Brannan made over 60 appearances for Morecambe during that time.
Adams replaced Malky Mackay as Ross County manager last week, departing from Morecambe to start his third tenure in that role.
At Wrexham on Saturday, they lost 6-0 in Sky Bet League Two, and Brannan was given interim leadership.
