Following the return of Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams, Jurgen Klopp outlines the approach.
After making just four starts during his half-season at Celtic, Phillips’ contract was not extended, and Williams, who failed to play for Aberdeen, was called up along with Owen Beck, James Balagizi, and Fabio Carvalho.
Joel Matip’s ACL injury will keep him out of action for the remainder of the season, but This Is Anfield knows Phillips might continue on as defensive cover past January. When asked about Phillips’ and Williams’ plans, Klopp all but confirmed this, albeit he did not provide the same assurance for Williams.
“We need to see with Nat. We have to think about things like this, our own circumstances,” Klopp told reporters.”He’ll undoubtedly be with us through the end of the month. That’s the way it is; we shall discuss and assess our circumstances.
“To be honest, we think highly of both because of what the boys accomplished while they were here.
“Now, Nat, I doubt he would say everything went perfectly at Celtic.”A little amount due to injuries, but if a team like Celtic is having success and you are a part of it, you will remain in the squad; if not, you may be cut from the team.
That makes no mention of the caliber. Nat will train with us, and after that, we’ll monitor its progress. In comparison to Williams, Phillips had already proven himself to be a more reliable first-team choice following their valiant performances in the 2020–21 season.
