Michail Antonio consents to leave West Ham United before the trade falls through.

Diego Torbes reports that Michail Antonio’s deal from West Ham to Gremio has collapsed following medical examinations.

On February 8, a South American writer covering the Brazilian team stated on Twitter that the Hammers forward was scheduled to depart the London Stadium following a move deal.

However, Gremio’s knee issue, which is preventing him from playing for David Moyes [Premier Injuries], turned him off, and they made the decision to withdraw because he was expected to be a costly signing.

The deal was still possible because the Brazilian transfer window is open until March 7 [Andy Newport, 1 February]. This means it was still possible after the UK deadline of February 1.

Antonio collapses upon leaving West Ham due to medical concerns
Antonio, 33, was mentioned as a potential departure during the summer transfer window, but his injury sustained in January limited talk of a move.

Even though he has appeared to be heading out for some time, West Ham would be taking a huge risk by letting him go at this point, as finding a replacement is unfeasible.
Despite letting Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma go, Moyes failed to recruit any attacking reinforcements during the winter transfer window, which left his squad thin going forward and contributed to his dismal run since the beginning of 2024.

Despite links to attackers, there was once again no replacement brought in for the summer departure of Gianluca Scamacca, let alone for Antonio or another exit-linked forward Danny Ings. Attempts to sign wingers fell through in frustrating circumstances.
Prioritizing the position before the window opened appeared to be the main focus, although the most effort was directed towards obtaining Kalvin Phillips on a Manchester City loan.

Because of this, striker will undoubtedly continue to be high on the priority list when the season concludes, but for the time being, the Irons cannot afford to lose any more of their forward alternatives.

In other West Ham news, the board has given a London Stadium figure complete support, so he might now be able to bring his brother to the team.
