A player would never refer to him as Coach Shanahan. For the 49ers head coach, who connects with players in their twenties more than other head coaches, that is simply too formal. It’s among Shanahan’s strongest traits. Although he may not be the traditional leader, his greatest players have a very strong bond with him.
During the 49ers’ media session on Wednesday, a few players discussed their connection with Shanahan.DEEBO SAMUEL: “Kyle fits within my high school’s category. My high school coach and I remain close to this day. He attended the NFC Championship Game recently. It’s only an unbreakable connection you make with someone. I feel like I can still get in touch with Kyle once I’m finished and we can continue our casual discussions.”
TRENT WILLIAMS: “At this point, I’ve only known him for fifteen years. incredibly close. It’s not just about football. It resembles family more.”

BOSA: “You’re all grownups once you’re in the NFL, so I’d say more like a friend. You were a little scared of Coach Meyer. Even now, I still have some fear of Kyle. In a way, Coach Meyer is intimidating.
