There are decisions being made. People are having conversations. There’s also a lot to follow.

Update on Jase McClellan’s future: January 6, evening
McClellan, the starting running back for Alabama in 2023, is anticipated to file for the NFL Draft as of Saturday night, according to sources who spoke with The Tuscaloosa News. There will probably be a formal announcement shortly. Although McClellan is a senior, he is still eligible for another year if he so chooses. However, Alabama’s backfield is congested, and NFL scouts have already seen a significant amount of McClellan’s college footage.
Observations on running backs following Roydell Williams’s departure: January 5, afternoon. The Tuscaloosa News has heard that senior running back Roydell Williams has added his name to the transfer site. That’s the only alteration to the backfield for this season that we are aware of. Still, given what Alabama possesses at the position, it makes sense. There must be opportunities and snaps available if you hope to retain young, skilled players like Justice Haynes and lJam Miler. It follows that the departure of at least one veteran player is not startling.
What will Jase McClellan do on Friday at around 3:15 p.m. CT is the question. He started for Alabama in 2023, and he just had a fantastic performance against Michigan. He is eligible to play in the NFL as a senior. He may return to Alabama, though. Or he might go through the portal with Williams. McClellan has several alternatives, but as of late this week, it’s unclear what he intends to do.
CJ Dippre update: Alabama starting tight end on January 4 According to information obtained by The Tuscaloosa News, CJ Dippre plans to stay for his senior season. Before the 2023 season, he moved from Maryland to Alabama. In addition to being utilized mostly for blocking, he caught 11 receptions for a total of 187 yards in 14 games. According to Pro Football Focus, Dippre played the most snaps of any tight end last season—524 to be exact. Robbie Ouzts came in next closest with 370. Considering he is a tough player and seasoned veteran, his return is noteworthy. In 2024, Dippre, a senior in his second year in the program, should have the opportunity to assume even more leadership responsibilities.
With Terrion Arnold and Kool-Aid McKinstry heading to the NFL Draft, who will be next?
Two new starting cornerbacks are needed for Alabama. Trey Amos is a strong candidate to be one of them. Travaris Robinson, the secondary coach, described Amos as “a guy who’s very intelligent, a guy who’s very athletic” to The Tuscaloosa News in Pasadena. He truly represents the future. He has the potential to be exceptionally talented.” No slot is granted in the secondary, as Robinson pointed out to me at another point in our meeting, but based on how Robinson described Amos, you have to believe that he is a strong candidate to start at one location. Throughout the 2023 season, he filled in at times and performed admirably.A player like USC transfer Domani Jackson may end up at the opposite outside cornerback position. However, Alabama offers some exciting young choices as well. After spending a season as a five-star prospect, Dezz Ricks is now complete. Jahlil Hurley is also present. Another choice is Antonio Kite. In addition, several gifted freshmen like Zabien Brown and Jaylen Mbakwe will be included in the mix.
Observations on edge defender placement: January 4.
It will be difficult for Alabama to fill two starter places now that Chris Braswell and Dallas Turner have left for the NFL. But the roster does include some solid players. I get the impression that this group of young edge rushers has a lot of promise, which makes sense given the presence of two previous five-star players—Keon Keeley and Yhonzae Pierre—as well as a player like Qua Russaw, a four-star. Additionally, a seasoned player like Quandarrius Robinson has a chance to start.Despite all the talent and upside, there’s not much starting experience among that group, though. So Alabama could still try to add a veteran from the transfer portal. But that really just depends on who/what is out there.
