Source: Cowboys Plan to Sign 6-4 Martavis Bryant – Again

Cowboys look to get over the 49ers hurdle

FRISCO – The good news for Martavis Bryant, who arrived in Dallas this fall after having served a half-decade under NFL behavioral suspension before his reinstatement? Even though the Cowboys cut him this week, the once-dynamic 6-4 receiver didn’t do anything wrong during his time at The Star. In fact, he did enough right in his work as a practice-squad member here that the Cowboys are planning to give him yet another “experimental” chance.

A source tells CowboysSI.com that while Bryant was cut to make room for the incoming offensive lineman La’el Collins, the club will seriously consider circling back to Bryant at a later date, maybe after the season via a “futures” contract.

Bryant is working through rebuilding a career that saw him do notable work with the Steelers and Raiders before the drug-related suspensions piled up – all of which took him to what he frankly described as a “dark place.” Bryant was a fourth-round pick by Pittsburgh in 2014 and spent four years there. Bryant scored eight touchdowns as a rookie. “I’m still fast, still big, I still want to play football,” Bryant said upon his arrival in Dallas. “I haven’t lost anything. I got a lot of doubters out there. It’s more of me proving to myself that I still got it.”

His efforts were never projected to land him on the 53-man roster barring a series of receivers’ injuries there. But if not for the practice squad numbers game, he’d still be at work here inside The Star … and maybe he’ll get a second shot at that soon.
