David Perron scores twice as Red Wings win 5-3

J.T. Compher and Daniel Sprong also scored for Detroit. Michael Rasmussen added an empty-net goal with six seconds left, while Lucas Raymond had three assists. Alex Lyon made 24 saves.

With 11 straight losses to start the season, the NHL’s worst Sharks (9-26-3) were led in scoring by Fabian Zetterlund, Justin Bailey, and Alexander Barabanov. 26 saves were made by Kaapo Kahkonen.

Despite losing three straight and ten of thirteen, the Red Wings got off to a good start in their three-game California swing.

Dylan Larkin drove to the net after Perron’s centering feed went off Sharks defenseman Kyle Burroughs’ foot and into the goal with the score tied at three.

Midway through the third period, Barabanov gave San Jose a 3-2 lead and scored his 100th NHL point. He swung around and blasted past Lyon after skating all the way to the goal line.

With the San Jose Sharks on an eight-game losing run, the Detroit Red Wings had a great opportunity to turn things around. They lost the first two fiercely contested periods, but they came back to win the third and earn two critical points at SAP Centre. After the game, head coach Derek Lalonde was all over the media, complimenting his team’s tenacious reaction, which was spearheaded by two goals by David Perron in the third period.

With Daniel Sprong’s power play goal in the first period, the Red Wings took a 1-0 lead thanks to Sprong’s 10th goal of the year. San Jose quickly tied the score with an odd goal: goalie Alex Lyon bumped the puck while trying to cover it with his glove, causing it to cross the goal line.

J.T. Compher scored his ninth goal early in the second period to give the Red Wings a larger advantage. But the Sharks answered quickly, levelling the score with a redirected goal from Mario Ferraro thanks to Justin Bailey. Alexander Barbanov’s turnaround shot in the midst of heavy traffic midway through the third period gave the Sharks their first lead of the game.
