In response to the tragic events involving two Bulldogs players, Georgia football coach Kirby Smart made a statement on Sunday.

The UGA Athletic Association announced that two young men, Devin Willock, 20, and Chandler LeCroy, 24, had perished in an early Sunday morning vehicle accident in Athens, Georgia. The injuries to the other two team members were minor and their conditions remained stable.

In a statement, Smart added, “We are all heartbroken and devastated with the loss of Devin Willock and Chandler LeCroy.” “Devin was a wonderful young man in every aspect and had a constant smile on his face. He was a pleasure to coach and a fantastic comrade. Chandler was a great asset to our football team, contributing a great attitude and boundless enthusiasm each and every day. We will do all in our power to support their families during this difficult time of loss as we mourn alongside them.”

Around 2:45 a.m. local time, Willock was a passenger in an SUV that collided in Athens, according to the police. Authorities said the car, which was in the outer lane, veered off the road and collided with multiple trees and two power lines.

FOX 5 Atlanta reported that Willock had passed away at the site. The driver, LeCroy, was taken to the hospital where she passed away, as reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Willock was a redshirt sophomore from New Milford, New Jersey, and he participated in every game during the regular season for the Bulldogs as a reserve offensive guard. In addition, he participated in both College Football Playoff games and the SEC Championship.
