Mike McCarthy’s postseason motivational tool for the Cowboys is downright depressing.
Mike McCarthy, the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, employed a novel strategy to energise his players ahead of their Wild Card game against the Tampa Bay Bucs.
The players for the Cowboys are now acutely aware of the fact that Dallas hasn’t won a road playoff game in thirty years. The Cowboys are a dark horse bet to win the NFL Playoffs and advance from the NFC, but they’ll need to pull off an accomplishment they haven’t seen in thirty years.
Mike McCarthy has chosen to steer into the skid rather than completely sidestep the subject. McCarthy used an unexpected motivational tactic by looking over some infant pictures on the Wayback Machine. Indeed, as reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN:
“Coach Mike McCarthy of the Dallas Cowboys showed his team the early photos of the ten players who were still alive on January 17, 1993, the last time the team won a road playoff game.”
Regretfully, Schefter omitted the baby photos from his tweet.
Despite travelling to Tampa Bay to play, Dallas holds the advantage. In order to beat Tom Brady and the Bucs, they will need to face their own demons.
Dallas should benefit from McCarthy’s insistence that his club is “ready to go” and that the extended week wasn’t necessary.
McCarthy remarked, “I think the work we’re going to do today and the way they practiced
yesterday, this time of year you wanna get up and go play.” That’s a factor, but you also need to work intelligently, in my opinion. You’ll lose more money if you overdo it rather than underdo it, which is obviously not the case this week. Because of this, it was crucial that we divided up Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
McCarthy will return for the upcoming season, according to Jerry Jones, regardless of Monday night’s outcome.
