Although it seems like head coach Mike McCarthy of the Dallas Cowboys will be staying in the role for the time being, owner Jerry Jones of the team might still plan for a replacement in the future.

Jones stated he saw a resemblance between Dan Campbell and a Dallas great, despite the fact that Campbell and the Detroit Lions will play his team on Saturday.

“I actually thought the type of thing that we see in Dan is so football-appropriate for the game,” Jones told The Dallas Morning News. “Every time that I look at him, I see Jason Witten, really.”

This doesn’t seem like it will happen anytime soon. Jones stated that if decisions needed to be made about the head coaching position, they would be made in the offseason. “That’ll have a course that seeks its own time frame,” Jones said to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport. “I don’t do anything of that sort until the season is over.” Naturally, if the Cowboys were in the playoffs, those offseason discussions would take a different turn. Witten is no stranger to the coaching profession; in fact, he recently guided Liberty Christian High School to the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) Division II state championship.
