Michigan is attempting to “rewrite the history” of previous CFP failures.

ANGELES — Michigan finds itself in a recognisable situation for the third year in a row. With two consecutive semifinal appearances under their belt, the Wolverines are looking to accomplish the one thing they haven’t been able to do in the College Football Playoffs: win.

In a Fiesta Bowl game versus TCU the previous season, Jim Harbaugh’s side was the favourite and did a good job of projecting the image of the stronger, more assured squad. That is, until the uproar caused by the Horned Frogs startled them. QB J.J. McCarthy believes his and the team’s mentality is much improved as the Wolverines look to avoid another playoff loss this season.

McCarthy remarked on Friday, “I felt like I got caught up in the noise and all the emotions of it last year.” “I’m just trying to stay simple, trying to focus on dominating meetings, dominating practice.”

McCarthy led the Wolverines to an unbeaten season while throwing for 2,630 yards and 19 touchdowns. Prior to the team’s New Year’s Day battle with Alabama in the Rose Bowl Game Presented by Prudential (5 p.m. ET, ESPN), McCarthy declared himself “100 percent” healthy. McCarthy had comparable stats the previous season, but in the game against TCU, the junior quarterback threw two picks. McCarthy had to agree when asked whether that had been his worst quarterbacking moment.

“In terms of just the moment that it happened, yeah I’d say it is,” he replied. “I’ve just been focusing this entire offseason to make sure I’m locked in on all the little details and that doesn’t happen again.”

Tight end Colston Loveland said, “I think it was a lack of focus and execution, obviously, last year.” “I believe that’s the only thing we’ve been concentrating on: we need to enter there with everything flawless. Paying close attention to all the small nuances. And I believe that was one lesson from the previous year.”

After two consecutive perfect regular seasons, three victories against Ohio State, and three Big Ten titles, the Wolverines know that winning a national championship is all that remains to be accomplished.

According to offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore, “I think the guys are very unsatisfied with everything that’s gone on this past year.” “They’re desiring and craving more. They have known what they want from the beginning, and they won’t be content until they achieve it.”

The Wolverines are aware that the task at hand is difficult. If there was ever a chance they disregarded TCU the previous season, it’s not the case with Alabama, whose record as a successful programme comes before them.

“I don’t think you can hold anything in this game,” Moore stated, referring to the way his offence will penetrate the Tide’s defence. “It appears that all bets are off. You must engage in physical play. Playing is necessary to win.
