Sources: Aston Villa £10m Iheanacho bid could seal Leicester City agreement
According to sources who spoke with Football Insider, Aston Villa thinks Kelechi Iheanacho might be lured away from promotion-chasing Leicester City for $5–$10 million during the January transfer window.
After the 2023–24 season, the 27-year-old’s contract at King Power Stadium expires.
Villa is looking for an attacker in January who can compete with and offer backup for players like Moussa Diaby, Leon Bailey, and Ollie Watkins, who have all been fixtures in Unai Emery’s squad this season.
On Wednesday, December 20, Football Insider disclosed that Aston Villa is also targeting Timo Werner, a striker for RB Leipzig who is now out of favour with the Bundesliga team.
Since Leicester was relegated from the Premier League the previous season, Iheanacho has made 20 appearances for the team in 2023–24.
In those appearances, he has amassed six goals and two assists, helping Enzo Maresca’s team to the top of the Championship.
Before Nigeria’s campaign at the African Cup of Nations begins next month, the 27-year-old is also a regular for the country.
Iheanacho is a seasoned Premier League player who rose through the ranks at Manchester City, amassing 42 goals in 196 league games.
It’s thought that negotiations between Iheanacho and Leicester about a possible extension have broken down.
