Lakers Expected to Bench Struggling D’Angelo Russell After Puzzling Comment
According to Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times and Anthony Irwin of Blue Wire Pods, Jarred Vanderbilt will start for the Los Angeles Lakers in place of D’Angelo Russell.
Following Russell’s poor shooting performance and his perplexing remark regarding his defensive play, the move was made.
It will be up to me to get them to quit depending on me if I’m not making shots. Though it’s not what I do, that’s where I work and where I strive to improve. I know what I do, so it’s something I know as well, but doing that is an extra, and that’s where my concentration is,” Russell told reporters following the Lakers’ 118-111 loss against his former team, the Minnesota Timberwolves.
His poor shooting performance (35% shooting over the Lakers’ last five games) has made his defensive shortcomings more obvious.
Russell was unplayable in the playoffs due to his defensive shortcomings. Additionally, his shooting collapsed after a strong start to the season—he shot 50% overall and 45% from three in November. After Thursday’s defeat, the 2015 second-overall pick is only shooting 27.5% of his threes and only 37.5% overall in December.
He is now the Lakers starting unit’s weakest link as a result. As the trade deadline of February 8 draws near, it also intensifies the trade rumours that have been circulating around him.
Kenneth Perkins Disrespects Angelo Due to Russell Russell’s subpar performance on both sides of the court, ESPN commentator Kendrick Perkins has urged the Lakers to deal Russell for almost nothing.
In a recent broadcast of “NBA Today,” Perkins declared, “At this moment, I would trade D’Angelo Russell for a box of Christmas-scented candles and a lifetime supply of Christmas lights.” That’s how awful he has been. We’re speaking of D-LO, a man who could get you a dub by going out every night.
“The Lakers require points. LeBron James needs to be relieved of some of the pressure. They must release Anthony Davis from their pressure.D’Angelo Russell is someone you should look at because he hasn’t been consistent enough.
During the Lakers’ previous five games, Russell scored in the single digits three times.
D’Angelo Russell’s Stock Value Continues to Decline
Zach LaVine is harder to get for the Lakers because of his bad play and the arrival of Coby White in Chicago.
According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, the Lakers would require a third team in any possible trade for LaVine in order to reroute their primary point guard.
“I believe that’s where this is probably going to go if it happens: a three- or even four-team deal,” Buha commented in a conversation with Bulls beat writer The Athletic.
The Bulls may want to consider finding a third team to acquire Russell or trading both Russell and the Lakers’ future choice for a player who can win now, especially because more teams are becoming viable trade partners.
Kings and 76ers Are you drawn to Zach LaVine?
As the trade deadline of February 8 draws near, the Lakers face two playoff teams as their greatest adversaries in their prospective drive at LaVine.
Shams Charania stated, “The Sixers are continuing to look at the marketplace,” on FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back” programme on December 21. “Observe their collection of assets: three tradeable first-round draft selections. They are under a lot of contracts. Therefore, Philadelphia has kept an eye on Zach LaVine and OG Anunoby as players and has a
According to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report, the Kings and Lakers are keeping an eye on LaVine’s condition. As LaVine was a restricted free agent in 2018, the Bulls had to match the Kings’ four-year, $78 million offer.
