At Wrexham, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds experience a Christmas boost and a blow.
Christmas came as both a gift and a curse for Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, as the team saw the return of two players and the dismissal of another.

The bad news for co-owners of Wrexham AFC, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, is that midfielder George Evans, 29, will be out of the Welsh team’s lineup for the entirety of 2023 after receiving a red card against Colchester.

Twenty minutes into Wrexham’s match against Colchester, Evans received a yellow card; six minutes later, he was dismissed. As a result, the midfielder will miss Wrexham’s next three matches against Walsall, Swindon Town, and Newport County.

His next opportunity to play is on the Racecourse Ground against Barrow, with whom Wrexham is now tied for second place in the League Two standings. The decision made by the referee did not satisfy Phil Parkinson, since Evans would miss a critical series of games.

Following the victory, Wrexham’s manager remarked, “I didn’t think George should have gone in for that challenge in the first one.” “He has put an end to the boy. I can’t tell if there was contact in the second one because I’ve only seen it from one perspective.

It is unfortunate if there was contact, but it is best to keep criticism of the referee to yourself. This is George’s first career send-off, and he has been fantastic for us.”

Although Wrexham’s enthusiasm was somewhat deflated by the news of Evans’s suspension, the team was given some positive news in the form of the announcement that custodian Arthur Okonkwo has resumed training and that striker Steven Fletcher will be playing again. Okonkwo and Fletcher had both been struggling with injuries that needed surgery.
