The Packers coach is aware that the Lions “kicked our ass.”
A losing team’s locker room after a game is never a fun place to be. The players are moody, worn out, frequently
nervous about the defeat, and occasionally quite irate. But the losing team’s coaches usually retain their cool and reserve their verbal abuse and outward displays of annoyance for after the cameras and reporters have left.
That did not transpire in Green Bay following the Lions’ 34-20 victory on the road on Thursday night. Head coach of the Packers, Matt LaFleur, was viscerally upset with his team’s performance when they went behind 27-3 and almost ran into the adjacent Lake Michigan by the Detroit visitors.
In his postgame press conference, LaFleur was ready to give the Lions credit, beginning with a few words of appreciation for their improved play in the second half.
Give Detroit a great deal of praise. They came in and gave us a pretty good whooping,” LaFleur remarked. “I thought our squad played well in the second half. At the half, I pushed them to just keep competing, and I think we succeeded. We had a chance to tie the game at three possessions; we were behind by ten and had a poor penalty. However, there is always room for improvement for us. I believe that if you are unable to run the football properly when you are out there, you should
Can’t stop the run, on the other hand, is a surefire way to lose football, and that’s exactly what happened this evening.
Give Detroit some credit. Although we were aware that they were a formidable foe, they truly outclassed us in every aspect.
LaFleur’s tone shifted the more he spoke and the more he considered the whooping from a divisional opponent.
You did indeed see it. When LaFleur was asked about getting destroyed in the first half, her blood pressure visibly increased. “We got our ass kicked,” she remarked. “It wouldn’t have happened if I knew.” It was insufficiently good. They gave us whippings. They treated us like animals. Again, that wouldn’t have happened if I known the answer to that.
