Houston Astros CEO Shares Thoughts About ‘Stud’ Team’s Future

General manager Dana Brown has revealed who he believes could be the next big player for the Houston Astros, and it appears that one prospect has captured his attention.
The Houston Astros have produced star players who come up through their minor league system, despite their farm system consistently being ranked as one of Major League Baseball’s worst pipelines, if not the worst.

The Astros developed Yordan Alvarez, Kyle Tucker, Framber Valdez, and Jeremy Pena into stars after making stars out of Alex Bregman, Carlos Correa, Jose Altuve, and George Springer.

To keep their dynasty going, they have been able to add young players to their roster to complement their best players.

Dana Brown, the general manager of Houston, discussed his ideas about the potential next rising star of the team on the ASTROLINE podcast.

During a podcast interview with play-by-play man Todd Kalas, Brown mentioned that their top prospect, Jacob Melton, had “a chance to be a stud.”

“I believe he has the potential to be exceptional. He was requested in nearly all trade discussions. Every squad is requesting him. “That is the one player I was hesitant to give away because you will see him on TV one day, playing, hitting balls over the fence, stealing bases, and making incredible catches,” the man stated.

That is really high praise.

Melton had a fantastic second season in the major leagues, hitting.245/.334/.467 with 99 total games played, 23 home runs, 41 extra-base hits, 55 RBI, and 46 stolen bases. After advancing from High Single-A to Double-A, he completed his season there.

Reducing his strikeouts will be this gifted prospect’s next developmental step.

In that case, Melton might find himself in Major League Baseball and, sooner rather than later, emerge as the next big thing for the Astros.
