A look inside the last-minute mistakes that cost the Bengals the AFC title vs. the Chiefs

The botched assignment that Cincinnati Bengals centre Ted Karras failed to block in the last two minutes of the AFC championship game was the moment that stayed with him following the game. Drue Chrisman, a punter, chose to leave his kick directly in the centre of the field. Michael Thomas, the captain of the special teams, thought back to the day he failed to make a tackle on Skyy Moore’s 29-yard punt return for the Kansas City Chiefs while he sat at his locker.

B.J. Hill, a defensive tackle for the Bengals, was not happy with how he tackled Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes during the game’s last play. And then there was defensive end Joseph Ossai, who missed his entire rookie campaign last year due to an injury but went on to become one of the Bengals’ top hustling players.

In the AFC title game on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium, the Chiefs defeated the Bengals 23–20 to go to the Super Bowl. With 17 seconds left, Ossai received an unnecessary roughness penalty. Mahomes stepped out of bounds, giving the Chiefs a first down, and Ossai completed his diving tackle attempt.

“I have to learn from my experience,” Joseph Ossai said in reference to Patrick Mahomes’ needless roughness penalty.
The Chiefs were in field goal range after Ossai’s 15-yard penalty, and kicker Harrison Butker scored a game-winning, last-second from goal from 45 yards out narrowly over the goal post.

Ossai remarked, “I have to learn from experience.”In an emergency circumstance like that, I’ve learned not to approach the quarterback while he’s near the sideline if there’s anything that could result in a penalty. I have to perform better.

The 2022 Bengals were a squad on a mission, dominating the second half of the regular season and emerging as the NFL’s hottest club heading into the AFC championship game.

Three rookie cornerbacks were covering their top receivers while the Bengals faced a quarterback with a sprained ankle. In a dismal season finale, the Bengals continued to blow opportunities.

A disastrous fourth-quarter performance means the Bengals’ 2022 season is over.
There were 1:27 remaining in the fourth quarter when the meltdown began. Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow had the ball in a tied game after 58 minutes in which the Bengals were unable to stop Chiefs All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones and Mahomes was producing one spectacular play after another.

I think that should have been sufficient for the Bengals. The Bengals failed to stop Burrow from leading the most storied game-winning drive in team history.

We weren’t always at our best, Karras said. But in the end, we fought and had a chance to prevail. We couldn’t finish it. When it mattered most, we didn’t give it our all. We were able to

It was Burrow’s fifth sack of the match. The Chiefs collected 12 quarterback hits, even though the Bengals were trying to give Burrow a chance to move the ball fast.

Bengals left guard Cordell Volson said Chris Jones as “one of the best defensive linemen in the league, and he played like it.” “We need to improve.
