Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger questioned whether the team’s tradition is eroding, prompting a veteran to respond.
Following the Steelers’ 21-18 loss to the New England Patriots, Roethlisberger questioned whether the Steelers’ tradition is “done” in his weekly podcast. The former quarterback questioned the team’s coaching and leadership, and he wondered which players would confront others and set the tone.
It was a stinging criticism from a franchise icon, and it prompted current Steelers defensive lineman Cam Heyward to respond on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” on Thursday.
Ben has a point of view. “He has a right to that, but I disagree,” Heyward said. “We’ve lost the last two games, and it’s been tough, but the Steelers way is to grind it out no matter what.” There’s a lot that can be done, and tradition begins with winning games, playing good defence, and scoring points.”
The Steelers have worked hard, but without much reward. Their disjointed offence has been a major issue, and even coach Mike Tomlin is facing criticism. Roethlisberger’s viewpoint may be exaggerated, but things are clearly not right in Pittsburgh.
T.J. Watt was not slowed by a few days in concussion protocol.
The Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker says he feels “great” and expects to play against the Indianapolis Colts (7-6) on Saturday.
Watt reported concussion-like symptoms the day after taking a knee to the facemask from New England running back Ezekiel Elliott on the first play of the Patriots’ 21-18 loss. He left for a short time before being given permission to return.
When he reported to the team facility the next day, the perennial All-Pro said he had “stuff going on.” He returned to practice on Tuesday and received clearance from an independent neurologist on Wednesday night.
Watt, who has 14 sacks, wore a tinted visor over his helmet for the majority of the New England game. He declined to elaborate on the decision, stating that he has worn a visor during pregame and practice and that “it’s not something that’s new for me.”
