The Oregon Ducks have found a replacement for Bo Nix, turning to the transfer portal once more to bring in decorated signal-caller Dillon Gabriel.

Dillon Gabriel, the newly signed Oregon football quarterback who transferred from the Oklahoma Sooners, has not only chosen his new team but also his new number. Gabriel announced on social media on Saturday afternoon that he’d be wearing number eight for the Ducks. Visit the post here.

Gabriel’s exclamation “Marcus Approved!” refers to former Ducks quarterback and fellow Hawaii native Marcus Mariota, who famously wore number eight in Oregon from 2011 to 2014 and was quick to approve of Dillon bringing it out of retirement with his approval.

Gabriel will attend Oregon for the third time in his FBS career. He transferred from UCF to Oklahoma. The 6’0″ 200-pound senior hails from Mililani, Hawaii, which is about 30 minutes north of Marcus Mariota’s hometown of Honolulu.

Dillion has completed 1,050 of his 1,664 passing attempts (63.1%) in 50 FBS games, with 125 touchdowns and 26 interceptions. He brings a career FBS passer rating of 159.8 to Oregon’s Oahu tradition.

The Tennessee Titans selected Mariota second overall out of Oregon in the 2015 NFL Draft. After stints with the Las Vegas Raiders and Atlanta Falcons, he is in his ninth NFL season as a backup for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Gabriel aspires to play in the NFL alongside Mariota and several other former Oregon football quarterbacks. They include Justin Herbert, Dennis Dixon, Kellen Clemens, Joey Harrington, Akil Smith, Tony Graziani, and Bill Musgrave, who won a Super Bowl with the Dallas Cowboys while assisting Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman.
