Ange Postecoglou, the manager of the Spurs, has reportedly enlisted the assistance of Broncos coach Kevin Walters in his efforts to recover from the agonising grand final loss to the Panthers.
After giving up the largest lead in grand final history, Walters’ team’s Brisbane team painfully missed out on a record-breaking premiership in 2023.
During his working holiday in the UK last week, Walters made the decision to consult with his longtime friend Postecoglou, a player whose daring style of play has won him over many detractors.
“It was nice to link up with him again and just have a good conversation about not just football but just life in general,” Walters told 9News Queensland. “He’s been very successful in his early days at Tottenham.”
Walters believes that following their devastating 2023 grand final loss, the Broncos don’t need to make any significant adjustments.
“All we want is to improve as a team and as a coach, myself included.”
“If I can improve, the club will improve and our players will continue to improve, and that is what we must do.”
In a thrilling match against Manchester City over the weekend, Postecoglou’s Spurs managed to steal a late draw at the Etihad.
Spurs finished the exciting match with a point despite trailing 2-1 at halftime thanks to a late header from Dejan Kulusevski.
Postecoglou said to Sky Sports, “It was a fun game.” To be truthful, we were fortunate to be in it at halftime; City might have easily defeated us in that time, just like they did against Aston Villa the previous week.
When asked what he had said to his team at halftime, Postecoglou responded, “There’s probably only three words I could actually say.” “It’s not easy – I’m always mindful that on the touchline, everything looks very simple, but out there when you’re facing an unbelievable football team, it’s difficult.” “It was just a message to them that, whatever happens, I’ll take responsibility for, particularly if it doesn’t go well, but go out there and just believe in ourselves, and I think they did that second half.”
