After a strong debut, Lions pass rusher returns to practice is not…
ALLEN PARK: Bruce Irvin returned to practise for the Detroit Lions after missing the first session of the week due to an ankle injury. This re-opens the door for the 36-year-old pass rusher to see increased playing time.

Irvin made his team debut against the New Orleans Saints last week. And, despite playing only 11 defensive snaps, Irvin made an immediate impact in Honolulu, recording a sack and knocking Saints quarterback Derek Carr out of the game with a brutal hit.

Dan Campbell stated that he wants to incorporate Irvin even more into the mix, depending on how his body reacts to seeing live reps and another week of practice.

“But yeah, he’s — I would say he earned that,” Campbell said on Wednesday.

Aaron Glenn was asked about what Irvin and new defensive tackle Tyson Alualu bring to the young defence, both of whom were at practice on Thursday. And the Lions defensive coordinator mentioned a conversation Irvin had with the defence earlier this week about what it takes to play championship-level football this time of year.

“It’s good to just hear those guys’ voices, for them to bring what they understand this league is about,” Glenn went on to say. “But man, I think it’s outstanding for guys 36 years old still playing in this league, man.”

In other encouraging news, linebacker Alex Anzalone returned to practice for the second day in a row. Anzalone did not play in last week’s win over the Saints. However, the captain appears to be on the right track after having a screw inserted.

Frank Ragnow, on the other hand, is nowhere to be found. While this is not surprising, moving forward without someone like that is never good news. Ragnow suffered a knee injury last week and was replaced by Graham Glasgow at centre and rookie Colby Sorsdal at right guard.

And, despite a difficult year of bouncing around on the offensive line, the Lions are optimistic about Sorsdal’s development.
