Evaluating Tennessee’s transfer portal requirements at each offensive position
Tennessee has already been aggressive in scouting and contacting players from other universities who are in the database and looking elsewhere since the NCAA transfer portal window began for undergraduate FBS players on Monday. After being picked to the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on Sunday, the Vols will play Iowa in Orlando on New Year’s Day in 2023, but the coaching staff will spend the next several weeks assessing their needs and molding the squad for 2024. With the Early Signing Period coming up later in December, portal targets will be a part of Tennessee’s recruiting efforts on their travels and during their final visit days.

What spots should the Vols target with the gaps they hope to fill through transfers as the roster-management season begins? There are many tiers of portal targets, ranging from immediate impact additions to filling a gap to players who are more likely depth or rotational components. There are also more developmental transfers who are a year or two out of high school and have numerous seasons of eligibility remaining.
