Dennis Lawrence filled in for Coventry City manager Mark Robins after he and his reliable assistant Adi Viveash were hospitalised with COVID-19 this month.
The first team coach, who was named the best candidate for the position by Robins upon his appointment, joined the Sky Blues last summer. The 47-year-old center-half, who had previously played for Swansea City and Wrexham, was tasked with helping players grow as individuals or in a group or team environment.
He assists Robins and Viveash, who usually take the lead in coaching, on the training pitch and in match preparation on a daily basis. For Lawrence, who has managed Trinidad and Tobago, his nation, for which he has 89 years of experience, Robins called it a “very rounded role.”
And against Sheffield United he was thrust back into the managerial limelight as caretaker boss for the day, proving to be a more than safe pair of hands as he oversaw a brilliant 4-1 thumping of the Blades at the CBS Arena.
