Ohio State transfer DB offered by Illinois Turner Ryan

Ryan Turner, a defensive back transfer from Ohio State, received an offer of scholarship from Illinois on Tuesday. With three seasons left to go, the 5-foot-11, 189-pound cornerback from Hollywood, Florida, is still eligible.

Over the course of his Ohio State career, Turner played 47 snaps in five games, recording three tackles and one sack.
Following his entry into the transfer portal on Monday, Illinois, Boston College, and Iowa State have extended offers to Turner.
Background: Turner finished No. 341 overall in his national recruiting class as a four-star Composite prospect in the Class of 2022. Turner accepted an offer from Ohio State and turned it down from numerous other schools, including Clemson, Georgia, Florida, LSU, Miami (Fla.), Oregon, Penn State, and Texas A&M.

What that means: Given the secondary’s difficulties last season, especially with regard to the cornerbacks, Illinois has been quite active in the previous two days in offering transfer defensive backs. In order to compete with the Illini’s returners at the position, which include rising sophomores Zachary Tobe, Saboor Karriem, and Jaheim Clarke, the Illini need immediate-impact options at cornerback. Illinois two-year starting cornerback Tahveon Nicholson also entered the transfer portal on Monday. Illinois has made offers to JUCO DB Tyrane Stewart, Buffnell DB transfer Ethan Robinson, Kansas State DB transfer Will Lee, and JUCO DB Chase Canada during the past two days. Tyler Woodard and Joshua Pierre-Louis, two JUCO DBs, have also been targeted by the Illini.
