In advance of their Sunday Night Football game against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Green Bay Packers have activated safety Darnell Strange from injured reserve. ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke
the news of the move in a social media post on Saturday afternoon.
The Seaford, Delaware, native Savage, 26, was selected by the Packers out of Maryland in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draught (21st overall).
In 2020, he had his best season as a professional to date, starting 16 games for the Packers and recording 75 tackles, 56 solo tackles, one sack, and four interceptions.
Last season, in a Week 17 matchup with the Minnesota Vikings, Savage picked off a pass from Kirk Cousin and returned it 75 yards for his first-ever pick-six.
Jonathan Owens, who had been starting in Savage’s place, will now take up the backup position as a result of his return to free safety.
The Packers recently emerged victorious on Thanksgiving Day, defeating the NFC-leading Detroit Lions 29–22 on the road. They are still in the running for the NFC playoffs at 5-6, if only narrowly.
They’re standing outside and peering in behind the 7th-seeded, 6-6 Seattle Seahawks. The New Orleans Saints (5-6) and Los Angeles Rams (5-6) are also fighting for that seventh seed.
With 20.4 points allowed per game going into the game, the Packers defence is ranked 10th in the NFL. For the 2023 season, the team’s allowed passing yards per game of 205 is good for ninth place in the NFL.
With 268 passing yards per game this season, the Chiefs offence, which is ranked seventh in the NFL, will present a formidable opponent for them.
