Bengals QB out for the season with a torn ligament
Starting quarterback Joe Burrow left the game in the first half of the Cincinnati Bengals’ crucial AFC North game against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday Night Football.
After halftime, he was officially ruled out.
Update: On Friday, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor announced that Burrow would miss the rest of the season due to a torn ligament.
The Bengals’ star quarterback appeared to be in severe pain with his right arm/hand after making a throw in the first half. The play can be seen here:
He attempted to throw but was unable to grip the football, according to sideline reporter Kaylee Hartung. “You witnessed the second throw he attempted. “I saw the first one just seconds before that,” Hartung said on Thursday Night Football. “He can’t hold the ball.” As he attempted to release the ball, he was unable to raise his elbow above a 90-degree angle. He’s clearly in pain.”
The quarterback was then taken to the locker room for further evaluation. The team designated him as “questionable” to return with a wrist injury. Jake Browning entered the game for the Bengals on their next possession.
Astute observers noted that the team posted, and then deleted, a video of Burrow before the game wearing some kind of brace on his right hand. The quarterback was not listed on. Cincinnati’s injury report before the game.
Whether that is related in any way to what happened on the field Thursday night is purely a matter of speculation at this point.
