Cameron Martinez, a safety for Ohio State, declared his plan to use the transfer portal.

The native of Muskegon, Michigan, discussed his future plans with 247Sports.

“Really my biggest thing I’m looking for at the next school is the opportunity to kind of show my entire skill set and continue my development,” he stated. “I think I developed my all around skill set and there’s some things that also came naturally to me and so that’s led to me wanting to be somewhere I can move around more or play more of a traditional safety, or even go back to the other side of the ball.”

Martinez is an intriguing option on the other side of the ball. He was a standout quarterback in high school, and some schools recruited him as a receiver. He received the Michigan High School Player of the Year award twice.

“I’m open to any part of the country, just looking for best fit,” he stated.

Pete Thamel reports that Rice quarterback JT Daniels will retire from football due to medical reasons following multiple concussions. Before coming to Rice this season, Daniels began his collegiate career at USC and attempted passes at Georgia and West Virginia. According to Thamel, medical professionals advised Daniels to retire. Daniels’s current career goal is coaching.

Daniels, a five-star recruit from Santa Ana, California’s dominant Mater Dei, was ranked as the top player in California and the second pro-style quarterback in the 2018 class, when he committed to USC. After enrolling early, he defeated Matt Fink and Jack Sears in a quarterfinal competition, making history as the second true freshman quarterback to start the first game of a season at USC. For a 5-7 team, his first season was somewhat uneventful; Daniels completed 216 of 363 passes for 2,672 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.

In 2019, Daniels triumphed in a quarterback competition once more as a sophomore, but in the opening quarter of the season, he sustained an ACL tear that ended his season. Kedon Slovis continued, commencing the remainder of

After Stetson Bennett sustained a shoulder injury, Daniels transferred to Georgia and eventually emerged as the starting quarterback. Daniels finished the season with a strong performance, completing 67.2% of his passes for 1,231 yards and 10 touchdowns with just two interceptions. Against Cincinnati, Daniels had a great bowl game, throwing for 392 yards and a touchdown.

As a result, Daniels was declared the favourite to take Georgia’s starting position in 2021. However, early in the season, Daniels sustained an unrelated injury and ultimately relinquished his position to Bennett, who went on to lead Georgia to its first national championship since 1980. Bennett had his share of setbacks as well, throwing two interceptions in the SEC Championship Game defeat to Alabama. After Kirby Smart, the coach of Georgia, expressed faith in Bennett, the quarterback responded by throwing for five touchdowns and no interceptions during the Bulldogs’ two College Football Playoff victories. Bennett went on to become a Heisman Trophy contender in his final season, leading the Bulldogs to a repeat championship.

After Bennett was firmly established following his first-round victory, Daniels returned to the portal and selected West Virginia. He was benched for Garrett Greene midway through the season, but he still managed to throw for 2,107 yards, 13 touchdowns, and nine interceptions in 10 games with the Mountaineers. Daniels’ ultimate transfer to Rice resulted from that. This season, he participated in nine games and completed 63.1% of his passes for 2,443 yards, which is a career-high amount of yards passed since Daniels’ USC freshman year. He also set a record with 21 touchdown passes.
