Josh Jacobs, the star running back for the Las Vegas Raiders, has become a valuable asset and may choose to sign a free agent contract this offseason. For the 2023 season, Jacobs is playing with a franchise tag and is not bound to a multi-year contract. According to Alex Kay of Bleacher Report, the team may sign the star running back with another team, such as the New England Patriots, because they are planning to appoint a new general manager for the upcoming season. It is unclear how much the team values the player

Despite his near-career-best performance as a pass-catcher (35 receptions for 280 yards through the first 12 games), Jacobs is still finding the end zone on occasion. However, because of his low 3.5 yards per carry, his market share will be limited. Jacobs seems destined to sign with a non-contender team in 2024—likely one that has plenty of cap space but lacks a strong wide receiver to carry the load.

A career-best performance as a pass-catcher (35 receptions for 280 yards through the first 12 games) and occasional end-zone touchdowns notwithstanding, Jacobs’ market will not be overly heated given his pitiful 3.5 yards per carry. With plenty of cap space and a lack of talent under centre, Jacobs appears destined to sign with a non-contender in 2024. This team will probably need a ball carrier to carry a big load.

Under Bill Belichick, New England was infamous for underpaying its running backs. But, there are rumours that the head coach will be leaving to join another team this season, and the organization’s priorities may shift depending on who takes his place. It will also depend on how the Raiders perform in the absence of Antonio Pierce as head coach. It’s likely that Jacobs will stay in Las Vegas if Pierce stays with the team.

Even though there are many “ifs” in this prediction, given how both teams’ seasons are starting, it appears plausible. Moving on from important players and starting fresh seems like the best course of action with both teams possibly undergoing major changes during the upcoming offseason.
