Friday morning, a “deceased carcass of a longhorn cow had been discarded in the front yard of our chapter house, branded with a phrase referencing our chapter in an inappropriate matter.” The Oklahoma State FarmHouse Fraternity released a statement claiming that no one in their chapter was involved in the incident.

According to the statement, the chapter is “sickened and surprised by this incident as our peers on campus,” and it is depressing to see the lack of concern for proper animal welfare.

According to Oklahoma State University, it is “appalled at the disturbing display of animal cruelty that occurred overnight.” The Office of Student Support and Conduct is also looking into it, according to the school.

Before Saturday’s Big 12 Conference championship game against the 9-3 Oklahoma State Cowboys, who are in second place in the conference, the 11-1 Texas Longhorns are ranked first in the conference.

TILLWATER — A day before Oklahoma State takes on the Texas Longhorns in the Big 12 Championship game, a longhorn cow carcass was left out on the lawn of an Oklahoma State fraternity on Friday morning.

According to pictures taken by The O’Colly, the OSU student newspaper, the cow was placed at FarmHouse and branded with the words “(expletive) FH” in reference to the fraternity.

In a graphic display, the animal’s stomach was cut open.

FarmHouse Fraternity posted a statement on social media, saying, “As a chapter founded on principles driven by our agricultural roots, we’re just as sickened and surprised by this incident as our peers on campus.” The situation’s disdain for appropriate treatment and welfare is depressing to witness. This incident did not involve any FarmHouse members, and we do not support any kind of animal cruelty or livestock vandalism.”

The timing coincides with OSU’s Big 12 Conference Championship Game matchup against Texas, who have a longhorn as their mascot, in Arlington, Texas, on April 12.

Several reports state that the carcass on the front lawn was reported to the Stillwater Police Department at approximately seven in the morning on Friday. Just before nine in the morning, police took it down, and they’ve launched a criminal probe into what happened.

The unsettling demonstration of animal abuse that took place overnight at an off-campus location close to a fraternity house horrifies Oklahoma State University, the institution said in a statement. The Office of Student Support and Conduct at the university has also opened an investigation into the incident in addition to the Stillwater Police Department’s.

“Oklahoma State expects all students to adhere to university codes of conduct, and appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.”
