The Pittsburgh Steelers, who fired offensive coordinator Matt Canada last week, have adopted an unconventional lineup.
Eddie Faulkner was elevated from running backs coach to offensive coordinator. Now, he develops the weekly strategy.
On game days, play-calling is handled by quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan.
Even though it could appear a little unclear
performed admirably in its debut last Sunday in Cincinnati, where the Steelers defeated the Bengals 16-10. For the first time since 2020, the Steelers amassed more than 400 total yards in a game.
During his first meeting with the players after being promoted, Faulkner remarked, “One of the first things I said was good teamwork is communication.”
Faulker, Sullivan, head coach Mike Tomlin, and quarterback Kenny Pickett—who passed for a season-high 283 yards—all had excellent communication in Cincinnati. During his weekly press conference, Tomlin stated, “I thought it was good.” “I believe it’s fair to anticipate that it will get better and continue to improve. One more week down the road. If a normal week exists at all, it’s been another one. We had Thanksgiving and other festivities last week, and I’m looking forward to it.
“I enjoy the location. We will keep trying to improve not just the way we communicate but also the logistical work we do in the run-up to the show. How we organise our day, how we deliver the information, and how we physically get our group ready for work. And you try to minimise some of your on-field snaps, especially during this time of year.
However, you must exercise caution in deciding what you physically represent and what you do not, Tomlin continued. “We have numerous opportunities for growth ahead of us.”The Steelers only managed 16 points against the Bengals, despite the yardage total being encouraging. Pittsburgh is ranked 28th out of the 32 teams in the NFL in terms of average points per game.
The goal of the coaching staff change was to address the Steelers’ inability to score more than 26 points in a game this season. Six of the Steelers’ 11 games this season have seen them score fewer than 20 points.
When questioned about his assessment of the modifications, Tomlin stated, “I’m not ready to paint with a broad brush at this time.” “I believe we accomplished what was required of us last week, and as we move forward, I believe the answers to those kinds of questions will become increasingly clear.”
The resurgent Steelers offence appears to be well-suited to the Cardinals. The Arizona Cardinals are 27th in the league in total defence after giving up 457 total yards to the visiting Los Angeles Rams last Sunday in a 37-14 loss.
