Oxford United suffered an injury ahead of the Bolton Wanderers

Oxford United are set to be without full-back Greg Leigh for their League One clash with Wanderers.

Leigh missed the 2-0 defeat at Cheltenham Town over the weekend after picking up a calf injury while on international duty with Jamaica.

The 29-year-old, who joined from Ipswich over the summer, has made 13 appearances for the U’s so far this season.

“It was a late change with Greg because he only reported back from the Canada game on Thursday,” head coach Des Buckingham told The Oxford Mail.

“He’s got a calf injury and we’re just waiting to assess the extent of it. He’s very unlikely to be available for Tuesday.”

Ruben Rodrigues is also suspended after he was sent off for a second bookable offence against Darrell Clarke’s side.

However, Kyle Edwards returned to action against the Robins following a spell out of action with a hamstring issue. He came off the bench for the final 25 minutes, replacing Fin Stevens at Whaddon Road.

Edwards made a positive impact along with Josh Murphy, who was introduced off the bench for the second half.

“Murph came on at the start of the second half, had an instant impact, and created two or three really good chances in the first five minutes.

“Kyle’s been out for a while, but it was good to get minutes into him. He’s going to be a very important player for us and if we can build minutes with him now, everyone has seen the quality he has in this league.”

It was Buckingham’s first defat in the Oxford dugout, having taken charge following Liam Manning’s departure to join Championship side Bristol City.

The 38-year-old played for Oxford at youth level and joined the coaching staff aged 18, working his way up to first-team coach under Chris Wilder.

He later held roles at Stoke City and Wellington Phoenix and was in charge at Indian Super League side Mumbai City before returning to English football to take charge at the Kassam Stadium.
