
DaRon Bland made history on Thanksgiving Day by using the Cowboys’ yearly Thanksgiving Day game.
With his fifth pick-six of the season on Thursday, the Cowboys cornerback broke the NFL single-season record. He intercepted Commanders quarterback Sam Howell and avoided several pursuing tacklers while making a 63-yard return to pay dirt.
“To have the fans, the family, the coaches there and do it on Thanksgiving Day is another thing to be thankful for,” Bland told CBS after the game. “I had to go grab the ball when I saw the receiver run an out route on that play. After that, all I could see was open space.”
After Washington was crushed 45–10, the score gave fans even more reason to celebrate. It moved Bland past Eric Allen (1993), Jim Kearny (1972), and Ken Houston (1971), the three players he tied last week with his fourth interception touchdown.
According to NFL Research, Bland’s huge play also propelled the second-year cornerback to the top of the Cowboys franchise record for career pick-sixes.
