Yerson Mosquera, a defender for Wolves, is nearing the conclusion of an extremely fruitful loan stint with MLS team FC Cincinnati; the young player may now be playing in the Championship.

Mosquera became a member of the team in January, following Wolves’ reported £3.3 million acquisition of Craig Dawson from West Ham United.

In fact, Wolves were aiming for Dawson before the 2022–2023 season and had intended to send Mosquera out before then. But West Ham was unable to sign a replacement, so they were unable to sign him.

Mosquera stayed for the season’s first half before departing in January.

The purpose of Mosquera’s loan to Cincinnati was to provide him with regular playing time after a serious hamstring injury ended his first season at Wolves.

Wolves also desired Mosquera to get better at speaking English.

For Mosquera, who is the focus of a recent article from The Athletic, the loan transfer could not have gone more smoothly.

Mosquera has enjoyed a brilliant past 10 months out in the States.

In his 33 appearances, the 22-year-old has contributed a few goals and assists. He has made a significant impact at the back, winning 5.7 “true tackles” for every 1000 touches from the opposition. That is the value of just four center backs in the Major League Soccer.

Recently, Steve David, the pathways manager for Wolves, flew out to see Mosquera to check on him. He was thrilled with the young player’s development and called the experience “outstanding.” Davis added that Mosquera had, in fact, become more proficient in English—exactly what Wolves had hoped he would.

Cincinnati’s head coach Pat Noonan says that Mosquera could be a contender for defender of the year. Mosquera is referred to as “an elite talent” by the 43-year-old.

It’s interesting that The Athletic has information about what might happen to Wolves’ £4.5 million acquisition going forward.

Wolves will reportedly now investigate sending the star to a Championship team, as Noonan has already expressed serious doubts about Cincinnati re-signing him in any capacity.

Championship is Mosquera’s ideal next challenge.
The way Mosquera’s loan transfer to the United States has gone will make Wolves officials very happy.

The most important thing was for him to simply play frequently after an injury essentially cost him his first season at Wolves.

Now that he has accomplished that, Mosquera should proceed to practice in the Championship, as Wolves regards the Colombian international as a potential first-team player.

The Championship is the ideal next step for him as he needs to adjust to the demands of the English game. Recent years have seen Wolves greatly benefit from the division, as players like Morgan Gibbs-White, Matija Sarkic, Luke Cundle, Ryan Giles, and Ki-Jana Hoever have all
