Nottingham Forest needs to make another attempt to sign Marcos Leonardo in January, as he has been linked to them.

Forest to Leonardo: What’s the story?
The Brazilian wonderkid was scheduled to move to the City Ground in the summer. But Leonardo decided to remain with Santos.

At the time, Tim Vickery didn’t believe Leonardo was a good fit for Forest. The player appears to be destined for the Premier League right now.

A younger striker was what Forest wanted to come in and challenge for a spot in the team. At that point, the only strikers in the City Ground squad were Taiwo Awoniyi and Chris Wood.

Before the window closed, the Reds did indeed manage to sign a striker. They had hoped for a younger option, but Divock Origi signed a loan, so it was not that.

Leonardo’s agent now feels that he is prepared to depart. “He had the possibility of being sold already in the previous transfer market, but Santos’ sporting situation was very particular,” he said to The Evening Standard.

When the January transfer window reopens and Leonardo becomes available, Forest will probably need another striker.

With four goals, Taiwo Awoniyi leads the goal scorers, but last week while playing for his country, he sustained another injury.

Wood has scored three goals so far this season, and considering how little he has played, Origi is unlikely to extend his loan agreement.

Leonardo is the younger striker Forest has been longing for, and at £17 million, he might end up being an incredible value.

Although the Reds may not have been able to sign the player, they should still make an effort to sign him in January.

When it comes to Leonardo, Forest may have one advantage over their competitors.
