Oilers forward gets cut on the wrist by rival skater
Edmonton says the player should be alright following the incident.
During the Oilers’ thrilling 3-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night, Edmonton forward Evander Kane suffered a terrifying cut to his left wrist from a skate blade and was rushed to the hospital.
Kane will have surgery on Tuesday night, according to the Oilers, and his condition is stable.
“Based on the limited information I have gathered thus far, it appears that he is in a favorable position,” stated Edmonton head coach Jay Woodcroft. “He’s receiving excellent care.”
During the second period, Kane got into a tangle with Tampa Bay defenseman Philippe Myers just inside the Edmonton defensive zone. Pat Maroon’s skate blade also cut Kane while he was on the ice.
Coach Jon Cooper of the Lightning said, “You cringe when you see that.” It was difficult to observe. I’m hoping he’ll be alright because in hockey, you guys compete against one another. We may be in a war, but we are still a family.
With his right hand, Kane grasped the cut area and hurried to the bench before making his way to the locker room.
Connor McDavid, a star for the Oilers, said, “It’s scary, definitely scary.” It seemed as though all of the rink’s energy was being sucked out. We have him on our minds. We’ve heard that he’s doing fine, but it’s clearly early.
