
Due to damage to his knee ligaments, Sol Bamba, a defender for Cardiff City, will be sidelined for the remainder of the campaign.
Bamba, 34, had to leave the pitch on a stretcher during Saturday’s 2-0 Premier League loss for Cardiff at Wolves.
The Ivory Coast international needed surgery after rupturing his cruciate knee ligament, according to manager Neil Warnock.
This season, Bamba has started all but one of Cardiff’s Premier League games.
The Bluebirds, who have lost three straight games and are currently in the relegation zone, will suffer a serious blow without him.
“Unfortunately our biggest fears have been confirmed regarding the injury Sol suffered at Wolves on Saturday,” Warnock stated.
“Scans revealed that Sol had an ACL tear. He will miss the remainder of the season due to an operation on Wednesday.
“It is a major blow to the squad but I know all of our supporters will join me in wishing him the very best during his recovery.”
As the team advanced to the Premier League the previous season, Bamba was a constant. In August 2017, he inked a three-year contract.
Due to his injury, he will also miss the Ivory Coast’s June Africa Cup of Nations campaign. Cheick Doukoure, a midfielder for Levante, is already questionable for the team.
Bamba posted on social media, saying, “I have to leave my team-mates for the rest of the season with great sadness.”
