Although Halloween is over, the Big Ten season’s scary part is just getting started because we still have two of the biggest games of the year left to play in addition to rivalry week.
Michigan’s first real test is this coming week when they visit State College to play Penn State. James Franklin is working to dispel the myth that he is incapable of winning pivotal moments, and the conference as a whole is hoping that Michigan’s in-person scouting investigation will cause them to lose face both on and off the pitch. Let’s take a look back at the first nine weeks of the season before Michigan and Penn State play.
After nine games, Michigan has appeared to be among the best teams in the nation, but they haven’t faced any serious opponents. Despite the fact that many people do not believe Ohio State to be the best team in the country, the team is ranked first in the college football playoff rankings.
The strange situation facing the Buckeyes is that they are a defense-first team with first-year player Kyle McCord still figuring things out. Though he was unable to defeat Michigan, former Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud appears to be among the NFL’s top ten quarterbacks. McCord faces a lot of pressure to win The Game even though he isn’t Stroud.
Following his loss of speed in the pursuit of 325, Bryan Ferentz was fired. Illinois has underperformed, but given who they lost in the offseason, that was probably to be expected. With three games remaining in the season, Greg Schiano is demonstrating why Rutgers was correct to turn back to him. Can they arrive at 8 o’clock?
Under their new coaches, Wisconsin and Nebraska have both experienced ups and downs, but it’s safe to say that both teams are moving in the right direction. They both need to win their final three games to qualify for the bowl and finish the season on a positive note.
A lot of teams still place a lot of importance on the final three games between Ohio State, Penn State, and Michigan in their battle for a College Football Playoff spot.
