It is reported that less than a day after being formally delisted by Hawthorn, veteran forward Chad Wingard had a medical with Collingwood.

Though Wingard will wear brown and gold through 2024, according to the Hawks’ commitment to re-listing the former Power goalsneak, Sam Mitchell’s team now has competition for the 30-year-old’s services.

Wingard had a medical with the Magpies on Friday and met with Collingwood’s powerbrokers, Craig McRae and Graham Wright, as first reported by Michael Gleeson of The Age.

Although the current premier’s level of dedication to forward is still unclear, Wright, McRae, and Wingard have a history of working together professionally from their days at Waverley Park.

But as Gleeson reported, there are rumours circulating that Wingard is eager to follow the original plan and rejoin the Hawks for a sixth season.

In an attempt to clear space on Hawthorn’s senior roster, Wingard was cut on Thursday. The team declared that Wingard would be selected by the Hawks in this month’s rookie draught.

The fact that the Murray Bridge native will miss the first part of the upcoming season due to an injury sustained late in his 2023 campaign eased the decision to place Wingard on the secondary list.

After leaving Port Adelaide at the end of the 2018 season, Wingard, who was twice named an All-Australian while playing for Alberton, has only made 71 appearances for Hawthorn, never really finding his footing there.

The day following the conclusion of the two-night National Draught, on Wednesday, November 23, is when the 2023 AFL Rookie Draught is scheduled to begin.

David Venables stated, “My tribute to them all and the sacrifice they gave is my acknowledgement and love through this simple exhibition of a journeyman hewer of paint and line. I am a child of a mining family from Wigan to Northumberland and southwards to Yorkshire, like the generation of hewers in the family.

The exhibition is based on Venables’s memories of his early years in the 1940s in the North East and his current life. This will feature a selection of his paintings and drawings from his early adolescent years. There will be decades of amazing work to enjoy as Venables gets closer to 80 years old.
