Andrea Cambiaso’s late goal was necessary for Juventus to overcome a resolute Hellas Verona and take the lead in Serie A. Juve appeared destined to lose two crucial points after being denied twice by VAR until Cambiaso scored a close-range goal in the final minutes of stoppage time. Juve leads ahead of Sunday’s meetings between Milan and Inter and Napoli and Roma.
Juventus defeated Hellas Verona in the 96th minute thanks to a tenacious goal from Andrea Cambiaso, which propelled the Turin team to the top of the Serie A standings.
After Moise Kean had two goals disallowed by the video assistance referee on a very difficult night for the generally dynamic striker, Juventus was relieved.
Kean’s first goal was disallowed for a very close offside as he returned to take the ball earlier in the move. It was a well-executed solo move.
And Kean himself was called for a foul back close to midway through the build-up, ruling out his second, which he had finished well after the interval.
Verona persevered till the very end. But with only a few seconds left, an Arkadiusz Milik header struck the post and Cambiaso scrambled it over the line, setting off joyous celebrations inside the Allianz.
TALKING POINT: A NIGHT TO NEVER FORGET FOR KEAN
Moise Kean came dangerously close to having a fantastic game,’scoring’ two wonderful goals and dominating the majority of the first hour as his team’s most threatening attacking player.
However, VAR denied him twice, which made the forward even more frustrated given his goalless run for the team.
And that agonised expression stayed on his face until the very last moments of the match, when he came off the bench to join the celebrations of the very last-minute victory.
Up until Cambiaso’s late winner, Kean was the talk of the town. The forward was simply outstanding for the majority of the evening. Had both of his goals stood, they would have been elegant moments for a player who caused Verona problems all the way up to his dismissal in the second half, when emotions were running high.
