Cowboys ride 16-game home win streak against Packers
Texas’s Arlington The final two weeks of the regular season were the best Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys could have hoped for.
Their ascent to the NFC’s No. 2 seed implies that they won’t have to go far during the playoffs—that is, unless they manage to reach the conference title game, a destination they have coveted for 28 years.
Under AT&T Stadium’s retractable roof, the Cowboys (12-5) are riding a 16-game winning streak, which increases the likelihood of at least two playoff games being played there.
When the Packers (9-8) face the NFC East winners on Sunday in a wild-card game, Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love—a future Hall of Famer—will make his playoff debut.
Prescott stated, “On our end, it starts with us taking care of this one.” We can discuss the opportunity, this, and that, but this game offers the chance right now. If I didn’t state that it’s today, the remainder of these meetings, and our strategy, I would be getting ahead of myself.
Dallas hasn’t made it to the postseason for three successive seasons since a run of six straight from 1991 to 1996, which includes three of the team’s five Super Bowl championships. San Francisco has eliminated the Cowboys from the playoffs the last two years, first at home in a wild-card game and then on the road in the divisional round.
Dallas wide receiver Dak Prescott who set club records with an NFL-best 135 catches for 1,749 yards, stated, “Experience is everything.” We all had similar wounds as a group of guys who have been with the squad for a while, and we don’t want to experience them again.
Dallas wouldn’t play the top-seeded Niners until the NFC championship game this season. For two months, the Cowboys trailed Philadelphia, the reigning division champion, until finally pulling ahead of the Eagles in the last two weeks.
For the first time since they were the NFC’s top seed in Prescott’s rookie season of 2016, the Cowboys will have several home playoff games instead of a postseason that was probably full of road games like the one from the previous year, when Dallas dominated Tampa Bay before the loss in the Bay Area.
Coach Mike McCarthy’s Packers and Aaron Rodgers defeated Prescott in his postseason debut.
McCarthy has now led the Cowboys for four seasons.
After leading Green Bay to a Super Bowl championship thirteen years ago and spending more than twelve seasons there, McCarthy stated, “It’s all about an excellent opportunity that we prepared ourselves and we put ourselves in this position.” “More importantly, we’re going to take advantage of it; we earned and deserved it.”
In the last eight games, Love completed 18 touchdown passes with just one interception, helping the Packers win 6-2 and secure the last NFC playoff place.
Love stated, “To be able to put ourselves in this position, we’ve had to win every game going forward.” “Obviously, the playoffs have raised the stakes a little bit, but we’ve been here before, so I think we have the right attitude moving forward.”
SMALL QBs
During the regular season, Prescott led the NFL in touchdown passes with 36, followed by Love with 32.
The league leaders from the regular season will face off in their second wild-card match. In 1982, Dan Fouts and San Diego defeated Terry Bradshaw and Pittsburgh 31-28, matching the records of two Hall of Famers.
