In Week 18, the Green Bay Packers added a wide receiver to their 53-man roster. Wide receivers Jayden Reed and Samori Toure are both suffering with late-season injuries at the time of the trade. When the Packers faced the Chicago Bears in Week 18, Jordan Love needed assistance.
In order to qualify for the playoffs as a wild card club, the Packers must defeat the Bears. Bo Melton, a wide receiver, was added to the 53-man roster by the Packers on Monday. In Week 17, Melton caught six catches for 105 yards and a score against the Minnesota Vikings.
“Melton is a first-year player that the Seattle Seahawks signed off of their practice squad late last season. He was initially taken by the Seahawks in the seventh round (at pick No. 229 overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Rutgers.
He has played for the Packers both on the practice squad and the active roster this season, starting one game out of four and totaling 11 receptions for 156 yards (14.2 avg.) and a touchdown along with one carry for 7 yards.
Melton participated in 56 games over five seasons (2017–21) at Rutgers, including 42 starts. At the end of his career, he was rated third in terms of games played, sixth in terms of receptions (164), tied for eighth in terms of receiving games of 100 yards (five), and tenth in terms of receiving yards (2,011).
Toure was placed on injured reserve by the Packers, who also added safety Tyler Coyle to the practice squad.
