Detroit Lions sign a new cornerback and release an offensive lineman
DT – An offensive lineman has been dismissed by the Detroit Lions, while a new cornerback has been added to the practice squad.
Craig James, a cornerback, has been drafted in place of former Michigan offensive tackle Michael Schofield, who was added to the practice squad on November 14.
James, who was cut by the New York Jets, reports to the Lions’ practice squad approximately four weeks later. Earlier in the season, he played in two games, recording one tackle and one pass defence.
The 27-year-old from Southern Illinois made his professional debut in 2018 with the Minnesota Vikings. He was a member of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2019 and 2020 before missing the previous two seasons due to injury.
The signing of James may or may not be connected to this development, but it was announced the day after CB Jerry
Jacobs missed practice because of a hamstring issue. In the Lions’ game against the Denver Broncos, Jacobs did not play much; instead, Kindle Vildor and Khalil Dorsey started in the secondary.
On Sunday in Minnesota, Detroit has the opportunity to win the NFC North for the first time ever.
