Bad News for Two Injured Depth Pieces for Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys defeated the New England Patriots 38-3, putting them in a strong position going into Week 5. The Cowboys need to win this crucial game, and their next game is a major Sunday Night Football matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.
Sadly, Dallas will be without depth players CB Nashon Wright and OT Matt Waletzko, who haven’t appeared in a game since 2023 owing to injuries to their ankles and shoulders, respectively.
According to Michael Gehlken of Dallas Morning News, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy announced on Wednesday that the team will not use Wright or Waletzko’s 21-day practice window in Week 5.
Dallas Cowboys: Injury Update
Since the NFL mandates that players on injured reserve miss a minimum of four games, Cowboys supporters had hoped that Wright and Waletzko would be activated in Week 5. Fortunately, Gehlken went on to say that the injuries “are not season-ending,” so perhaps the two players won’t be sidelined for too long.
When Wright was chosen 99th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, he signed with Dallas. Despite playing primarily on special teams, he has managed to make 24 solo tackles, intercept four passes, and defend four passes in 20 career games—three of which he started—for the Cowboys.
With top wide receiver Trevon Diggs sidelined for the remainder of the season, Dallas could use the addition of a potent depth option such as Wright.
The injury to Waletzko, who was selected with the 155th overall pick in 2022, is somewhat more worrying, particularly in light of the fact that both LT Tyron Smith (knee) and RG Zack Martin (quad) are also sidelined.
The 23-year-old has been battling shoulder problems since the preseason of 2022. He was unable to get over the wound.
