The next Forest Green Rovers manager is Southampton coach David Horseman, who will be assisted by Bristol City great Louis Carey.

David Horseman will take over as head coach of Forest Green Rovers, the team has confirmed.

From Southampton, where he had been in charge of the B team, the 39-year-old now joins.

As a first team coach in the Premier League last season, Horseman supported former Southampton first-team manager Ruben Selles in an interim capacity.

He led the B squad last season despite his first team responsibilities, and they won the Premier League 2 Division 2 title by defeating Leeds United Under-21s on goal differential.

Previously, Horseman worked for two terms totaling more than ten years at Bristol City in a variety of roles, and he also worked for nearly three years as the main professional development phase coach at Watford.

Carey holds the record for most appearances for Bristol City and played in excess of 500 professional games.

On Thursday, Horseman and Carey will formally start their duties. This week, the team will play Coventry City and Everton Under-21s in preseason friendly under the direction of interim head coach Hannah Dingley.

“Dale (Vince), Asif (Rehmanwala), and Allan (Steele) have given me the opportunity to lead a team which has such strong values both on and off the pitch,” Horseman stated. “I’m extremely excited and grateful.”
