The Dallas Cowboys have received some unfortunate news: their head coach will be sidelined for a few days. This is prior to a pivotal game between the division rival Philadelphia Eagles (10-2) and the 9-3 Cowboys. Both clubs will be 10-3 if the Cowboys win that game. Additionally, there will be no clear winner for the NFC East division leading position.
NFL Insider Tom Pelissero said on X that McCarthy woke up in the morning with stomach trouble. Following a comprehensive assessment, the diagnosis of acute appendicitis was made. “Surgery is scheduled for this afternoon, and he should be released later today.” Given that the operation for appendicitis is minor and extremely safe, he is probably going to return on Sunday.
During McCarthy’s absence, coordinators Brian Schottenheimer, John Fassel, and Dan Quinn will take over the reins of the team and guide them during their practice sessions in the run-up to Sunday Night Football. Since he is the offensive play-caller this season, his absence will hamper the practice sessions. Tthe team will not be prepared for what calls they will be subjected to on Sunday.
The Cowboys have a stellar record so far in the season. They are 1st in points per game at 32.3 and 5th in yards per game at 380.4. The franchise stands at the threshold of securing a 3rd consecutive playoff berth, but it’s going to be an uphill battle ahead.
According to Tankathon, the team has the 2nd hardest remaining schedule in the league. A major criticism of the Cowboys’ performance has been that they have had to face comparatively easier opponents. After the Eagles game, they will have to take on the Buffalo Bills, the Miami Dolphins on Christmas Eve, and the Detroit Lions.
